Dubai & Abu Dhabi on a Budget: An Epic 4-Day Itinerary for Under ₱15,000
Introduction: Experiencing Dubai & Abu Dhabi on a Shoestring Budget
Dubai and Abu Dhabi, known for their luxury and extravagance, might seem inaccessible to budget travelers. Think again! This article details our incredible 4-day, 3-night adventure exploring both cities for under ₱15,000 per person. We'll break down every expense, share our itinerary, and reveal insider tips to help you plan your own unforgettable UAE experience without emptying your wallet.
Day 1: Arrival and Essential Preparations
Our journey began with a Cebu Pacific flight from Manila to Dubai. Upon arrival, we focused on three key things: securing a local SIM card (₱1,800 for 4 days with 4GB data), purchasing a Nol card for easy transportation (AED 25 with AED 19 consumable credit), and withdrawing cash from an ATM for better exchange rates. We recommend pre-booking your SIM card for a hassle-free arrival.
We chose to stay in the Deira district, known for its affordability and convenient access to major attractions. Our accommodation at the Grand Square Hotel cost ₱9,448 for three nights (good for two people). While it was a long travel day, the excitement of our upcoming adventures kept our spirits high.
Day 2: Iconic Landmarks and Desert Adventures
Day 2 was dedicated to experiencing Dubai's most iconic landmark: the Burj Khalifa. We took the train to the Dubai Mall station and enjoyed a scenic walk to The Palace Downtown, marveling at the towering skyscraper. After capturing some memorable photos, we enjoyed a delicious (and budget-friendly) brunch at Five Guys inside the Dubai Mall.
The highlight of the day was our Desert Safari Adventure. We booked a tour for ₱1,229 per person, which included pick-up and drop-off, dune bashing in a 4x4 Land Cruiser, camel riding, henna painting, a buffet dinner, and captivating live performances. The tour provided incredible value and an unforgettable experience.
Day 3: A Day Trip to Abu Dhabi
Our Abu Dhabi day trip started with a train ride to the Al Ghubaiba Metro Station, followed by a bus journey (AED 25 each way) to Abu Dhabi's Central Bus Station. We purchased a Hafilat Smart Card for local transport and then took an Uber to our first destination: the Emirates Palace.
At the Emirates Palace, we indulged in a unique experience: tasting a gold cappuccino! While pricey, it was a memorable splurge. Afterward, we attempted to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque but unfortunately, due to a change in regulations, we couldn't enter without appropriate attire. We recommend buying an abaya in advance to avoid disappointment.
Despite the mosque setback, we enjoyed exploring a nearby mall and grabbing a bite to eat before returning to Dubai, albeit after a slightly confusing bus journey.
Day 4: Exploring Old Dubai and a Birthday Surprise
Our last day began with a visit to Old Dubai, taking a short Abra ride across the Dubai Creek. We explored the historic Al Seef district, enjoying its traditional architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Next, we headed to Jumeirah Beach for a glimpse of the iconic Burj Al Arab, followed by a delicious (but pricey) meal at The Noodle House in the Souk Madinat Jumeirah.
To celebrate my birthday, we visited the Five Palm Jumeirah Hotel's rooftop bar for stunning views and a Michelin-star cheesecake. The day ended with a frantic rush to the airport after encountering difficulties booking a taxi, but we made it just in time for our flight back to Manila.
Cost Breakdown and Conclusion
Our total cost per person for the entire trip was ₱14,947, including pre-trip expenses, daily spending on food, activities, and transport. This breakdown proves that experiencing the magic of Dubai and Abu Dhabi is possible even on a tight budget.
Traveling doesn't have to be expensive. With careful planning, resourcefulness, and a thirst for adventure, you can create unforgettable memories without breaking the bank. We hope this guide inspires you to plan your own incredible UAE adventure!
